Meldrum House Hotel Transitions to Apex Hotels, Preserving Wedding Plans and Rich History

Meldrum House, a hotel and golf course with a staff of 150, was purchased by Edinburgh-based Apex Hotels from its previous owners: Bob Edwards, David Buchan, and Terry Buchan.

Apex Hotels, a UK chain with over 1,000 employees and 10 properties, plans to expand by acquiring Meldrum House for its fine dining and luxury accommodations.

Jordan Charles, managing director of Meldrum House, will stay on to lead his team while supported by Apex Hotels' resources and expertise.

    Food inflation rose in December at its slowest rate in 18 months as retailers cut prices in the run-up to Christmas.

    A recent report from the British Retail Consortium-NielsenIQ Shop Price Index shows that grocery prices in the UK rose by 6.7 per cent on an annual basis last month, up from 7.8 per cent in November and the lowest level since June 2022.

    Lower prices for wine, port and sherry that have grown during the Christmas period have helped to ease the air for households still reeling from the pressure of the cost of living.

    Crerar Hotel reported a rise in revenues from £14.5m to £19m as summer sales across the group outstripped the levels in the run-up to Covid.

    In the week to the end of March 2023, the number of staff rose by more than 16% from 267 to 312 as pay and benefits increases pushed expenditure across the group to the tune of over £2m.

    Gross profit also grew by more than 30 per cent from £12.6million to £16.4million with a further £2.4million on modernising hotels and spas across the portfolio.

    Six Company CEO and founder Nico Simeone said the £3m investment will include a new flagship Six by Nico in Merchant City.

    The first is Six by Nico Merchant City, the company's new flagship restaurant set to open on 15 January on 64 Albion Street.

    The current Finnieston Six by Nico closes on January 14th. With the new launch, planned for 1132 Argyle Street, in February two concepts join into one venue.

    The 150-square-metre George Street property, which is expected to open 'early' in 2024 including a sushi bar, will also be made.
