VisitScotland boss calls on tourism firms to sign up to voucher scheme

The Scottish government has introduced a holiday voucher programme to boost tourism by offering "subsidized holidays" within Scotland.

The National Tourist Organisation's ScotSpirit Holiday Voucher Scheme is designed to help tourism companies recover from the pandemic and is financed entirely by the Scottish Government.

Bed and breakfast, hotels, hostels, campsite and visitor attractions are paid by the Scottish Government for every reservation made directly with the Holiday Voucher Initiative.

The subsidy for overnight stays is capped at £400 for two or three nights, but there will be a higher capped £500 allowance for families with school-age children who plan to stay for two or three days during school holidays.

Why is VisitScotland encouraging companies to become involved in its scheme?

The program is available for guesthouses, guest houses, hotels, hostels, campsites, and visitor attractions throughout Scotland.

Charities including the Family Holiday Association and Shared Care Scotland will help to ensure that those who most need the subsidized travel will receive the vouchers.
