UK hospitality is launching legal action over anticipated lockout limitations

Tuesday, October 13, 2020

The British hospitality industry is threatening legal action over new lockdown rules that will force pubs, clubs and other bars to shut.

The British Beer and Pub Association, and two of its most prominent pub operators, JW Lees and Joseph Holt, are joining the campaign along with 10 other organisations.

Sacha Lord, Manchester's late-night business adviser, said: 'Once again the government wants to shut down pubs and bars, but this cannot keep happening and we need to understand why the hospitality industry is being isolated like this – where is the scientific evidence to suggest closing venues suppresses transmission?'

Cases have hit records in northern England the highest in recent weeks.

Under the new plans, areas in England are expected to be ranked as medium, high and very high, which will determine the amount of new intervention needed.
