Job vacancies strike a million mark for the first time

Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows the number of job openings rose by 269.300 (35.2%) between June and August, with all sectors increasing their number of vacancies.

The ONS's latest figures show there were 1.034,000 job openings recorded between June and August despite a 75.4 per cent rise in hospitality openings.

Meanwhile, the number of unfilled vacancies has surged by 249.000 in the first month on record, reaching more than a million, amid labour shortages in some leading UK industries.

The number of UK workers on payrolls has increased by 241.000 between July and August, 1.000 ahead of the coronavirus outbreak, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said.
