Boris Johnson invites hospitality leaders to meet following debate in Parliament

Business Secretary Paul Scully will meet the petitioners in a bid for hospitality ministers, PM Boris Johnson has said.

The proposal and the associated "seat at the table" campaign have been launched by our chef and restaurant editor, Claire Bosi.

The brief petition - simply titled 'Create a Minister for Hospitality in the UK Government,'- received support across the restaurant industry following the arrival of the new coronavirus pandemic, highlighting the relative political impotence of a £130bn industry.

Official petitions containing 100.000 signatures are currently debated in parliament, and MPs voted to set up a hospitality minister following a 90-minute debate in Westminster Hall on 11 January.
