120-Year-Old Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh Undergoes £35M Transformation

Friday, March 29, 2024

The iconic Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh, affectionately known as "The Caley," is set for a major overhaul this summer.

The hotel, which has recently secured a £35M investment from Henderson Park and Klarent Hospitality, will soon be under the Curio Collection by Hilton umbrella.

This move comes after Henderson Park's acquisition of the 120-year-old property in July 2023 for £85M.

The transformation includes upgrades to infrastructure, refurbishment of bedrooms, and restoration of public areas.

With this expansion, the hotel capacity will increase from its current 241 rooms to over 300 rooms by early 2026.

Inspired by the crests of historic Scottish cities – Edinburgh, Stirling, and Inverness – the new bedrooms and suites aim to preserve and celebrate Scotland's rich heritage.

Christophe Kuhbier, managing director at Henderson Park, emphasizes their commitment to "stewardship" of The Caledonian, which has been a cornerstone of Edinburgh hospitality for over a century.

Speaking on behalf of Klarent Hospitality, Peter Stack expresses great anticipation for the upcoming transformation of The Caledonian Hotel. With a shared commitment to preserving its rich heritage, he looks forward to working alongside Henderson Park and Hilton to create an exceptional guest experience at this iconic Edinburgh establishment.

"As custodians of this landmark hotel, we have committed to the significant investment and transformation that will see The Caledonian as a world-renowned, leading hotel at the heart of Edinburgh." -  Peter Stack

The addition of The Caledonian Hotel to Curio Collection by Hilton is a significant milestone for Hilton's UK & Ireland operations, as Stephen Cassidy, the senior vice president and managing director, envisions this historic Edinburgh landmark rising to prominence among leading international hotels.
