House of Gods Launched in September 2019. The 22 room boutique hotel and cocktail bar - just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile - is an OTT blend of maximalist interiors, lavish fabrics and hand-finished details polarised against an easy going vibe. Years spent working in London opened the eyes of owners Ross and Mike Baxter to a world of unapologetic luxury which was dampened by industry exclusivity, financial barriers and blown up price points.

Although the hotelier scene felt stifled by the high barrier to entry, there was a cry out for something unique amongst the sameness of the industry.

“Who needs another vanilla hotel named after a rich guy’s wife? This is about taking the ball back and giving people what they really want from a hotel experience. I’ve had the idea in my head for years and have been collecting interiors one-by-one ever since. From spending weekends on the road to individually collect 20 antique Chiavari chairs before re-upholstering each in House of Hackney fabrics, to storing a free- standing nickel-plated bathtub in my loft for the past 8 years, we’ve built this place with zero compromise.” - Mike Baxter

Inspired by the capital’s style and character the brothers returned to Edinburgh with a burning desire for modern, decadent interiors complimented with superior service – without the stuffiness. Only now armed with the production know- how and a vision to bring a rebirth of cool to accommodation. The Lounge Bar features huge panels of Gucci Heron wallpaper, neon signs and Rosso Levanto Red Marble bartops. The refined nature is clashed against a stream of resident DJs and an over-hanging giant disco ball, all paired with a bespoke cocktail menu inspired by tales of Hotel Rock N’ Roll debauchery.

In a true balance of opposites, the rooms (from cabins to penthouse) are set in luxurious Pinot Noir velvet wall coverings, with private bars hidden behind antique mirrors and floor-to-ceiling marble in every oak-panelled ensuite. The hotel feels inspired by the cabins of the orient express juxtaposed with modern finishing where more is more – House of Gods offers up a world of unapologetic extravagance.
