Ye Olde Hob Inn among the pubs that will benefit from Heineken investment

Heineken this year will invest £38m in its Star Pubs and Bars estate to help deal with a growing number coming from home.

Around 700 pubs, almost one third of the space available on his properties, will benefit from the investment commitment, and that will also create some 500 jobs.

The 17th-century Ye Olde Hob Inn in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, has just completed a £165.000 makeover.

The redevelopment of the pub has also led to the creation of six new jobs.

"Many people have rediscovered the joy of their neighbourhood pub between lockdowns over the last year, and are opting to stay local," said Lawson Mountstevens, chief executive officer of Star Pubs and Bars.

The remodelling aims at improving the beer gardens, and also at increasing the quality of the food, which is supposed to comprise 30% of turnover.

Renovations are expected to cost between £125.000 and £400.000, with each design customised to suit a particular pub and local community.

This money has been spent to establish a separate bar, supper and lounge and modernise the interior.
