What does the pub trade say on the improved job support?

The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has approved a new package of financial aid announced by chancellor Rishi Sunak for businesses, including pubs which face closing in future local closures.

This scheme goes into effect on 1 November and shall continue for six months.

It says there is no hard evidence yet that pubs are unsafe in strictly complying with Government policies, leaving it unclear whether such blanket arrangements are major players in the control of the virus.

Kate Nicholls, UKHospitality chief executive, said: "Paying two thirds of employees" wages in lockdown is a welcome step and it is encouraging to see the Chancellor introducing flexibility and a sectoral approach into JSS and recognising that this is an evolving situation. To help support clubs and other businesses that lie in limbo and continue not to reopen is very welcome as it will help to save jobs in a sector that would be sorely missed if allowed to die.

While welcoming the new assistance the BBPA stresses that the best way to protect Jobs and livelihoods requires the allowing the pubs to continue to serve their communities and provide a properly regulated safe space to socialise.

In order to qualify, the staff have to be employed by a company on or before September 23.
