The group, which operates restaurant brands such as Wagamama, Frankie & Benny's and Coast to Coast, has taken over Barburrito's 16 locations that are mainly focused on malls, town centres and transport hubs.

TRG, which also runs restaurants from the Garfunkel's brand and Frankie & Benny's brand, said on Tuesday that it had made a return to growth with sales up by a fifth since last year in the 25 weeks to 26 June.

Barburrito, set up in 2005 by Morgan Davies and Paul Kilpatrick, is described by TRG as "well aligned with consumer trends including healthy eating, convenience, and customisable cuisine" and spends an average of £10 each.

The company now has 16 sites in all major UK cities including large shopping malls such as Sheffield Meadowhall and Liverpool One as well as the travel hubs Edinburgh Airport and London Paddington.

The 16 remaining sites are expected to add around £1.6 million in adjusted EBITDA to TRG in the next 12 months.
