Pret A Manger sales rise above premarket level for first time

Pret a Manger sales surged beyond their pre-pandemic levels during the past week for the first time, according to the Bloomberg Pret Index.

The index indicates that not all of the UK's top shop chains are recovering at the same pace. Sales were strongest in London's suburbs, while sales in the City of London and Canary Wharf were slightly lower than pre-Covid levels, as businesses and banks allow staff to spend less time at the offices.

The areas where sales are still below pre-virus levels have been the City of London, which sees employees spend fewer days in offices, major cities' airports and mainline stations, due to continuing disruption of rail and air travel. "Nationwide we are back back to pre-pandemic levels," Pano Christou, Pret's chief executive officer, said in an interview.
