New Animal Welfare Standards Implemented by KFC

Friday, July 12, 2019

KFC are signing up to the European Chicken Commitment (ECC) to ensure greater animal welfare standards across the brand and supply chain.  This will be the first fast food chain in the United Kingdom to sign up to the initiative, and will be alongside the 30 other supporting brands in Europe, including Waitrose and Marks and Spencer.

KFC has pledged to work with suppliers that can guarantee the better welfare standards of their broiler chickens by 2026.  This pledge includes making sure that the barns are more spacious and have enriching provisions such as perches and pecking objects.  This implementation will impact the lives of 72 million chickens, according to Compassion in World Farming, which is an animal welfare organisation.
