New £6 million distillery will be first in Inverness in almost 40 years

An Inverness whisky distillery has been given a new brewery and distillery for the first time in almost 40 years.

The Scottish Highlands island capital City wants a new £6 million whisky distillery and brewery to be "sustainably powered by the water from the River Ness" it has emerged.

"Gaelic for monsters" will be one of the country's lowest carbon distilleries on opening at Glen Mhor Hotel in Inverness.

Both beer and whisky production will be starting this year, and the five core types of beer is scheduled to become available at the end of November.

The Uilebheist Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is being bred as a core whisky product and it will come out after maturation. Rare cask and single-barrel bottling are also expected to be carried out for years to come.

The Uilbeheist range offers the convenience of possessing a barrel of Uilebheist Single Malt Whisky distilled in the first year of production.

Heat pumps in the adjacent Sustainability Centre which run on the water of the River Ness will supply heating and hot water for the entire hotel complex Glen Mhor.
