Labour shortages: which jobs are most in demand?

Monday, November 15, 2021

The continued shortage of labour shows no signs of easing over the festive period, raising new concerns that traditional festive activity can be forced out.

The report showed that there were no signs of decelerating, with 221.000 new jobs in November, pushing the number of posts to 2.68 million.

The jump in the number of new job announcements took the total number of active vacancies to 2.68m, the highest ever recorded.

It was the latest indication of how labour shortages will continue to weigh on the economy, including a shortage of skilled workers

The new figures underline the scale of the UK labour shortage whose extent and duration threatens the economic recovery.

Clerk Neil Carberry said: "While roles in logistics and care are in high demand, the construction sector saw a drop-off last week as supply issues constrained the industry's ability to work to capacity."

The labour market in London is suffering from the overall recovery in the UK, with job vacancies plunging 0.1 percent over the past week, REC said.
