Hospitality job vacancies up by nearly 700% over the year

In that category, about 178.000 vacancies are open out-of-work - a figure that has jumped to 109.000 according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Vacancies in the hospitality industry have risen by nearly 100.000 since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, according to the statistics.
The number of jobs in hospitality grew significantly last year, albeit weakened slightly to 19.000 between December 2020 and February 2021, and soared to 109.000 in April to June 2021.
The number of unfilled jobs also grew by 13.6% over the same quarter, from November 2021 to January 2022.
The data for the whole employment market shows an estimated 1.298 million open jobs during the most recent period, an increase of 113 percent.
The staff shortage has raised the wages of guest workers. Emma McClarkin, Managing Director of the British Beer & Pub Association said: "Now and throughout the past 22 months, the hospitality sector has experienced acute labour shortages due to varying factors from the pandemic through to Brexit.
The latest labour market statistics from the ONS show just how challenging the situation is with record numbers of vacancies across the UK.
