Hospitality Industry Meets Wage Growth of 7%
Tuesday, January 15, 2019
It has been revealed by job site, CV-Library, that in 2018 the advertised pay for roles in hospitality grew by an average of 7.1%. This means on average salaries were around £28,850pa (per annum), making it the second highest growing sector, following closely behind legal work which increased by 7.6%.
To keep up with competitors, a lot of businesses increased pay in the hopes to attract the more talented, skilled and knowledgeable hospitality workers – making the industry look as desirable as it is.
In the wake of Brexit, there was a decline of migrant workers entering the country from the EU, pairing that with people leaving or changing jobs, we saw a decline of 18,000 people working in the accommodation and food service sectors in the year leading to June 2018, compared to the year before. It seems that there are fewer people in the industry, making it the most fragile it has been since the recession.
