Harrods restaurant staff gets 25% pay rise after strike threatened

Harrods restaurant staff have called off planned strike action after they pushed through pay rises of up to 25 per cent.

Restaurant staff at Harrods say they got a 25 per cent pay rise, with some chefs now earning more than £12.50 an hour, avoiding the threat of a strike over the Christmas week.

The pay rise means many workers will be getting nearly £5.000 a year more, and some a 25 per cent rise. Harrods has said the pay increase does not involve the threat of strikes.

The retailer said in a statement, "This has been entirely driven by ongoing discussions and work internally with our restaurant colleagues, and at no point during this three-month process have we engaged with a third party. Harrods has earlier said the pay rise was not connected with the threat of union lawsuits.
