Glasgow ethics supermarket secures £850.000 of growth

Scotland's first social enterprise supermarket has secured a £850.000 funding commitment to support ambitious growth plans, as it seems to benefit from rising demand for local, organic and waste-free food and commodities.

Glasgow regional head office Locavore hopes to build an overall food system that works better for the locally-grown business, the environment and local communities.

Since it opened in 2011 the social enterprise has opened three stores in Glasgow, developed market gardens, introduced a veg box programme, and persuaded many people to concern themselves more with issues surrounding food (where the £850.000 funding package comes from) and the fairness and sustainability of established supply chains.
