Gay bar fund-raiser in east London reaches target of £100.000 after surge in donations

The new bar in east London will be 'the UK's first community-run LGBTQ+ venue'.

This summer Fotja launched a crowdfunding campaign that saw shares in the new bar and community venue slashed in what has been described as a "massive challenge" to the number of LGBTQ venues lost to the development.

The Joiners Arms was once home to some of the most powerful figures in fashion, music and the arts, among them Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane and Rupert Everett.

Friends of the Joiners Arms said it had been "ecstatic" to raise more than £100.000 for the opening of a new venue.

The developer, Regal London, had promised to pay £100.000 to fund a pop-up bar as a makeshift solution during the demolition and refurbishment of the carpentry.
