Famed Jenners department store in Edinburgh will close

Tuesday, January 26, 2021

One of Britain's oldest department stores, Jenners in Edinburgh, is to be pulled out, and 200 jobs will be cut.

The shutdown follows a failure to reach an agreement with property owners to continue operating the building.

House of Fraser's department store is believed to be halting trading on 3 May.

Jenners, one of the most recognisable names in Scottish retail, has retaded183 years as a dealer in this multi-level centre in Princes Street.

A spokesman for Frasers says: "Despite the global pandemic, numerous lockdowns and the turbulence caused for British retail, the landlord hasn't been able to work mutually on a fair agreement, therefore, resulting in the loss of 200 jobs and a vacant site for the foreseeable future with no immediate plans.
