'Euro2020 fanzone could lead to new Glasgow lockdown', firms fear

Saturday, June 5, 2021

In Glasgow, there have been fears the city's fan zone for Euro 2020 could lead to a spate of bursts and another shutdown, forcing licensed venues back into operation.

Restaurants in Glasgow face stricter restrictions than elsewhere in the country but will be set to relocate to Level 2 on Saturday, allowing more people to serve alcohol indoors and drink for longer.

Pub and restaurant owners across the city are fearing for the Glasgow Green fanzone who will hold up to 6.000 fans a day over the 31-day tournament.

The fan zone is planned to open for tournament season on June 11 and reopen every day until the final match June 11.

There will be big monitors where visitors can watch matches and there will be food and drink together with activities for people to explore.
