Crowdfund Launched for Sustainable Restaurant in Cardiff

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

The Dusty Knuckle pizzeria has launched a campaign to open an eco-focused restaurant in the city centre through crowdfunding and are hoping to raise £40,000 on Kickstarter to turn an old park warden’s bungalow in Sophia Gardens into one of the country’s most sustainable, eco-focussed independent restaurants.  Dusty Knuckle founders Phil and Debs Lewis started running the business in 2014 at local markets before expanding to two permanent outdoor locations in Cardiff and St Davids.

Working with the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s (SRA), the group are planning on a way to open their new site in the most sustainable way.  This would consist of a rainwater recycling system, composting machine, keeping honey bees on the roof and even implementing an employment scheme for disadvantaged groups and to make the restaurant as accessible as possible to everyone.

Last year, the group won the ‘People’s Choice’ awards in the SRA Food Made Good award and states to be the first in the company that have brought reusable pizza boxes made from aluminium in order to reduce waste.
